These terrace houses are designed for pre-approved 6.8 m and 7.1 m wide by 25 m long plots; aimed for young families who need room to grow on a tight budget.
We aimed to improve two aspects of the typical terrace house; ventilation and daylight. We did this by planning all the ‘servant’ spaces (utilities, kitchen, stairs) within a 2.5 m wide zone, to support the ‘served’ spaces (living, dining, entry, bedrooms).
By doing so, we were able to:
- Allow cross ventilation from front to the rear of the house,
- Have four rooms upstairs, plus a small study/home office downstairs,
- Natural daylight into the stairwell (via a skylight),
- And tall ceilings in the bedrooms.
