We were commissioned by the client to provide a renovation package, which included redesigning the interior spaces and creating signage for Plaza Aurora. Formerly known as Kuching Plaza in the 90s, the building has undergone renovation to accommodate office spaces, with the Sarawak Tourism Board occupying the 4th floor.

Drawing inspiration from local Sarawakian arts and culture, as well as considering the building’s function, we envisaged the interior walls and doors as blank canvases for the signage to come alive. Instead of a typical main sign at the building frontage, we designed a ‘planter-wall-display’ with plants forming the backdrop of the main sign.

Additionally, taking inspiration from the ‘Kelirieng’ (burial pole) synonymous with indigenous Sarawak culture, we reinterpreted it as an entrance signage totem for Plaza Aurora, using local timbers that reflect the diversity of forests in Sarawak.
