This is a house for a housing developer, who has built a significant area of the surrounding housing estates. The house is divided into open spaces and closed spaces and consists of three tubes stacked in a U-shaped courtyard formation. The courtyard is used as a device to organise the spaces and rooms for this large family house.
The spaces within the tubes are considered ‘closed’ (private), whereas the in-between spaces created by the stacking of the tubes become ‘open’ (public). This allows the rooms to have views of the courtyard and swimming pool. It also means that the floor plans are one room thick, served by a single loaded corridor – ideal for cross ventilation and natural lighting.
