“Beer and Bonsai” forms part of the Open House anthology, which includes major and minor renovations, giving birth to Open House I, Open House II, Dining Pavilion, Kitchen Verandah, Nursery, and Dog House.
A phone call, conveying a request which was the brief; to house beverages for their often-held dinners and cocktail parties and, oh, also space for Aunty Dona to potter around with her plants. The simple single-storey structure is an extension of the existing car porch and uses similar materials and details from the main house. It reuses some restored fencing and gates and explores ideas about rainwater harvesting (for the bonsai).
